We left Nairobi for Diani by road at 6.00 am. It was an express road trip. We got to Mombasa at 1.00 pm and got on to Likoni ferry and headed to Swahili Beach Resort in Diani❤

It was a weekend getaway which meant just a few days to rest and play. Time away together is so precious once children come.
Here are 10 things to consider when planning that will help you maximise on your short time away:
1. Choose your destination together
Unless you are planning a surprise for your significant other, choose a place you both want to go to. A place you both haven’t been to and can discover and experience together for the first time is a great choice.
2. Prepare the kids for your absence
Getting kids into routine prepares them in advance for your absence when you need to be away for whatever reason. Ensure your nanny/caregiver participates in all aspects of their daily routine so that your absence will not unsettle them too much. Knowing they are comfortable largely determines whether or not you enjoy your getaway.
3. Identify activities in advance
Once you settle on a destination, decide on some of the activities you intend to enjoy… swimming? hiking? workout? dinner? This will help you pack accordingly. Planning also helps you make the most of your time away.

Working out is always on our to do list while away.
4. Make special requests
If your destination is a hotel, let them know if there is something they can do to make your stay all that more special.
5. Carry a surprise
A little (or large?) gift for your partner is always welcome. Receiving a gift just because is unforgettable. It can be related to your destination… a special spa treatment for instance or just small, simple and thoughtful.
6. Be ready to create your own fun
What happens if your getaway destination turns out to be below your expectations? Have fun anyway!! Get creative. Capitalise on your time away anyway.

7. Pack romantic nitty- gritties
Need I say more…. ❤❤❤
8. Spruce Up
Get your hair, nails etc done. Wax or shave especially if you intend to wear a swimsuit. You just feel better when all neat and tidy.
9. Don’t forget to rest!
It is easy to get caught up in your long list of things to do and completely forget to actually rest and recharge!
10. Don’t feel (too) guilty?
Guilt has a way of rearing its head when you are having fun in your children’s absence ? Stay focused! Remember that you are a better parent when you are at your best as an individual.
Special thanks to Ms. Joy Ludenyi of Swahili Beach Resort for an extra special stay❤
